The efforts of Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda at repositioning the state in Nigeria’s sports ecosystem, has received the praise of All Progressives Congress(APC) National Legal Adviser, Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia.

Barrister Kankia’s commendation came during an interaction with participants of the 2026 polo season where he wished players and other stakeholders safe and successful matches. The APC Chieftain said Governor Radda’s commitment to sports development was helping to sustain sporting activities and create opportunities for athletes to showcase their talents.

He opined that investment in sports extends beyond competition, arguing that the sector could promote youth development, discipline, unity and positive engagement among young people.

The APC’s National Legal Adviser also hailed the Emir of Katsina, Dr. Umar Faruk Umar, for upholding the historical traditions and values associated with the emirate, describing the preservation of cultural heritage as an important responsibility for present and future generations.

Kankia said combining sports development and cultural preservation strengthens the identity of Katsina State and provides a platform for its heritage to remain relevant to younger generations.

Extending felicitations to players taking part in the 2026 polo competitions, he charged them to demonstrate sportsmanship and compete in a spirit of fair play.
Kankia’s remarks come amid intensification of efforts by the Katsina State government and other of growing governments and traditional institutions across the country to use sports and cultural activities to promote tourism, preserve heritage and deepen community engagement.

He said continued support for sports together with the preservation of historical values, would continue to contribute to the development and visibility of Katsina State.
