The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has released important guidelines on the access to the self-service modification portal of the National Identification Number (NIN).

In a statement signed by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the Commission’s spokesman, NIMC said applicants for the NIN Data Modification should know that their self-service account is uniquely tied to the browser and device they used during registration. and as such access to their accounts are therefore limited to that specific browser on that particular device.

Continuing, NIMC said for individuals wishing to change their NIN record, they must log in using the same browser and device originally used to register the account noting that any attempt to use a different browser or device may result in access issues.

Regarding the clearing of cache, the NIMC statement warned that clearing browser cache will reset the browser and may lock the individual’s account. It said if this occurs, the account will require an unlinking process to regain access. It added that in the case of a lock browser and device, an individual is permitted a maximum of five (5) unlock attempt requests. after which no further requests will be processed.

NIMC said these measures and others, are part of safeguards put in place by the Commission to safeguard and protect the Identity of the users of the self-service modifications portal.

“NIMC urges all users to carefully follow these guidelines to avoid unnecessary disruptions and delays. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as the Commission continue to safeguard your data and improve service delivery”, the statement said.
The Commission stated that for further assistance, the public should contact its customer support channel- nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng.
